Purpose of the Role
Delivery and management of all City & Guilds training courses, including the Level 3 Certificate in Learning and Development, the Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocational Achievement and the Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance, together with support for the Rail Services Training Department to ensure staff competencies are maintained to a high standard by providing training and assessment so Rail Services personnel are fully competent in their roles. Lead Trainer for the RSSB Non Technical Skills course and deliver Non Technical Skills (soft skills) training nationally (UK mobile), ensuring all staff working on on track machines, freight and IM trains comply with Colas Rail’s ROGS certification, Railway Group Standards and health and safety legislation.

Person Specification
- Safety first approach in all aspects of people, process and equipment management.
- Proven team player with a logical, enquiring mind and strong analytical and decision making skills.
- Able to build and maintain positive relationships within and across teams.
- Committed to developing self and others; motivates colleagues to learn and improve.
- Determined and resilient; able to achieve results under pressure.
- Comprehensive knowledge of rail industry standards relating to plant, freight and equipment, including operational safety and health & safety legislation.
- Strong communication, organisational and IT skills with experience in training administration.
- Hold PTS (not essential) and a valid UK driving licence.
- Qualified to undertake City & Guilds assessments and hold a recognised City & Guilds Trainer/Assessor qualification.
- Qualified in Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) to support assessment verification processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a variety of industry recognised training and assessments to vocationally competent candidates.
- Deliver Non-Technical Skills (soft skills) training nationally (UK mobile), including but not limited to:
- Manual handling
- Confined spaces
- Working at height
- Rail Services induction
- Lead Trainer RSSB Non-Technical Skills Course
- Maintain soft skills competency across Rail Services:
- Plan and deliver initial training and re certifications; maintain and update the Soft Skills matrix.
- Create, update and maintain training documentation, presentations and supporting materials to company and industry standards within agreed timescales.
- Plan, deliver and update the Rail Services induction and associated documentation.
Training Administration And CMS/LMS Management
- Register candidates and record training and assessments on the company CMS/LMS.
- Update CMS/LMS with new and existing training, competencies and assessment outcomes; check weekly that assessments are completed and recorded.
- Scan and file documentation using correct naming protocols to maintain audit visibility.
Operational Support And Incident Response
- Carry out on call duties as required; respond to SPADs, incidents and accidents involving Rail Services drivers/staff members; attend incidents and produce comprehensive reports including immediate causes and recommendations.
- Participate in the on call rota (current frequency: 1 in 6 weeks) and attend RS SPADs and incidents as a TOLO when required.
- Operational competence and planning:
- Undertake operational competence assessments and produce detailed training plans where required.
- Collaborate with Training and competency Manager to ensure training, assessment and competency requirements are met and records are up to date, visible and auditable.
- Attend weekly and periodic training department meetings; present training and assessment numbers and plans to the Training and competency Manager.
- Develop a robust training programme that builds a multi skilled team able to cover the role during sickness and annual leave. This will include documented training plans, cross training key tasks, a skills matrix to identify gaps, scheduled shadowing and refresher sessions, and a structured handover process. Regular reviews will ensure the programme remains current and up to date.

People Engagement And Briefings
- Deliver team face to face briefs, safety conversations and inspections as required.
- Attend driver days or stand down days (UK mobile).
As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements. Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
