About the Role
We are seeking a Trainer/Assessor to join our Electrical Installation Team at City of Portsmouth College on our North Harbour Campus. In this role, you will provide a high-quality external assessment of students’ and apprentices’ work, including delivering practical sessions.
Key Responsibilities
Course Delivery and Management
- Co-ordinate and manage learning across the electrical department, including subject/workshop delivery to groups of students.
- Prepare and develop course materials in collaboration with the curriculum team.
- Develop and implement the curriculum with the curriculum team.
Recruitment and Engagement
- Engage with the recruitment and selection process for appropriate course candidates.
- Contribute to marketing activities and attend open evenings, taster sessions, and school visits as required.
Assessment and Student Support
- Conduct assessments in the workshop and/or workplace for both practical and written work.
- Work with employers to make appropriate arrangements.
- Ensure compliance with awarding body requirements.
- Produce and keep updated assessment plans and other necessary documentation.
Student Progress and Development
- Provide one-to-one support and review sessions for students.
- Monitor and record student retention, progression, achievement, and success using College procedures, documentation, and systems.
- Compile and submit statistical returns, including retention rates, examination results, student progress, placements, and destination reports accurately and on time.

Workshop Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop the workshop area, including tools and equipment, when the subject is technical.
Digital Technologies
- Promote digital technologies, including e-learning, within the curriculum.
Requirements
To apply successfully for this role, you need:
- A Level 3 qualification or above in Electrical Installations
- Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) Qualification
- Assessor/Verifier Qualification
- A Level 5 Teaching Qualification, or willingness to work towards it
- Ability to meet targets within set timescales
- Strong teamworking ability as well as the capacity to work independently
