Job Introduction
Landmarc Support Services are currently seeking to recruit a Training Area Operative to join our dedicated team. In this role you will play a key part in helping to maintain a safe, efficient and sustainable place for our Armed Forces to train.
We are looking for someone enthusiastic about working in an outdoor environment, dedicated to supporting the Military. Landmarc provide full training and continuous development opportunities, making this a fantastic opportunity to start a career on the Defence Training Estate.
As the Training Area Operative - Main Tower Assistant, you will play a key part in helping to maintain a safe, efficient and sustainable place for our Armed Forces to train, this pivotal role is essential to the delivery of the contract.
We are looking for someone who is keen to work outdoors in a rural environment, previous experience in a similar industry is desirable but not essential. Landmarc offer great career progression and will provide full training to the successful applicant.

Role Details
- Salary: £32,688.94 + Allowances
- Location: Tain Air Weapons Range, Ross-shire, Highland, Scotland
- Contract: Permanent, On-Site - 45 Hours Per Week
- Hours: Monday to Friday 07.30 to 17.30 Plus Overtime

What You’ll Do
- Grounds maintenance and sustainability tasks
- Preparing training areas for use
- Operation and maintenance of plant and equipment
- Manufacturing targets and target repairs
- Ensuring safety protocols during live firing practice
- Driving and operating fleet vehicles
- Carry out additional tasks as required
- Carry out Preventive and Reactive Tasks.
- Carry out Cleaning Duties
- Carry out Sentry Duties
Tower Assistant Duties
Please note, this role will involve you attending and passing an MET course.
- Carrying out MET observations at Tain and Cape Wrath.
- Use of correct radio terminology and phraseology for clear communication
- Operating marine radios to communicate with nearby shipping
- Managing and operating the bomb scoring computer system
- Acting as a point of contact and performing lone worker checks for lookout towers
- Using range management systems to monitor and display range activity
- Understanding of range targets and associated weapon systems
- Use of warning systems including radar, flags and night lights
- Ensuring public safety, report and deal with unauthorised persons on the Training Area Estate control of access, reporting defects
- Detachment to Cape Wrath Training Centre to carry out MTA duties when required.
What We’re Looking For
- Knowledge of Health & Safety such as COSHH, manual handling, risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Knowledge of working outdoors in a rural environment
- Basic labouring, caretaking and DIY skills
- Excellent communication and IT skills
- Demonstrate proven track record of achieving objectives
- Work in a diverse multi-tasking mobile team environment
- Willingness to undertake training to work in high risk areas
- Previous Military experience (desirable but not essential)
- Weather Observer (desirable but not essential as full training will be provided)
- Must hold Full Valid UK Driving Licence
