Training Manager
The Role
Hutchison Ports – Port of Felixstowe is the UK’s largest deep water container port and a key gateway for global trade. We are currently looking for a Training Manager to join our Operational Training team, playing a key role in developing the capability and future performance of our engineering workforce, with a particular focus on our apprentice population.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting individuals to learn, grow and succeed. Whether your background is in apprenticeship management, learning and development, further education, engineering training, early careers programmes, colleges, schools, or operational engineering leadership, this role offers the chance to make a lasting impact on the next generation of engineers.
This role is responsible for the planning, design, delivery and quality assurance of engineering training, with a strong emphasis on overseeing and supporting engineering apprentices throughout their development journey. You will ensure all programmes are aligned to business needs, operational requirements and compliance standards, while providing structured pastoral care, guidance and mentorship to apprentices to help them succeed both technically and professionally.
You will lead the development of competency-based training frameworks, support early careers pathways and ensure apprentices receive a high-quality, engaging and supportive learning experience. This includes monitoring progress, identifying development needs, and working closely with line managers and training providers to ensure timely achievement of qualifications and workplace competence.
Working closely with Engineering Managers, HR and external training providers, you will ensure that all training activity is structured, effective and aligned to long-term business objectives. A key part of the role will be building strong relationships with apprentices, acting as a central point of support, and fostering a culture of learning, safety and continuous development across the engineering function.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
