Training Manager & Trainer – Energy & Utilities (Contract Position)

About the Role

As the world’s leading change and transformation consultancy, we enable our clients to bridge strategy and execution—helping them implement lasting change in digital, technology, and organisational transformation. We’re seeking Training Managers and Trainers to support our UK water utility clients across the South of England in driving capability building across critical transformation programmes.

Note: This is a temporary contract (3–6 months) with up to 3 days on-site work and expected travel to additional sites.

The sector is undergoing its most significant upgrades in a century, modernising assets, systems, and ways of working to secure vital water and waste services. Our AMP 8 regulatory programmes include multiple delivery models:

  • Enterprise Programmes – Core platform/technology replacements and regulatory-driven initiatives
  • Digital Delivery – Agile/hybrid transformations of customer journeys, decision-making, and case management
  • Operational Change – "Deploy and embed" initiatives affecting frontline teams
  • Operating Model Change – Shaping people, governance, and process

Work covers all key water utility business units, including Water, Waste, Engineering, Asset Management, Supply Chain, Operations & Control Centres, alongside enabling functions (HR, Finance, Commercial, Procurement).

Your role will design and deliver practical, engaging learning to help teams adopt new tools, processes, and behaviours—ensuring adoption across shift-work operations, emergency scenarios, and mixed field/control environments.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Your Responsibilities

Core Deliverables

  • Analyse training needs for diverse roles (e.g., HQ, field-based teams, control rooms, customer ops, planners) while factoring in risk, safety compliance, and regulatory obligations, distinguishing between mandatory vs. discretionary training.
  • Design and develop training in operational contexts using blended learning approaches, including:
    • On-the-job training
    • Tool-based and simulation-based learning
    • Short, task-focused microlearning modules
  • Coordinate and schedule training around 24/7 shift patterns, peak operations, standby cover, and emergency readiness to ensure non-disruption in service delivery.
  • Define accreditation and competency frameworks—including “License to Operate” approaches for repair, maintenance, and field teams.
  • Deliver instruction-led and virtual training, tailor-made for non-technical users and beginners, while simplifying complex workflows into clear, high-impact guidance.
  • Provide ongoing reinforcement through:
    • Super users/champions fencing
    • Floor-walking and on-the-job coaching
    • Refresher and performance support tools
  • Manage and scale internal “Train-the-Trainer” programmes to build capability in-house.
  • Collect and use feedback to improve content, adapt delivery, and refine training materials—with reliance on AI for fast iteration of design, updates, and applicability.

Ideal Candidate Qualities

Technical & Sectoral Fit

  • Experience in delivering training for digital/system implementations and operational process change, with preference for utilities/water or regulated sectors (fallback to other field-based services acceptable).
  • Proficiency in collaborative content creation, including job aids, interactive guides, and structured learning pathways.
  • Experience in training coordination across control rooms, clearance depots, hubs, and contact centres.
  • Systems knowledge across key platforms:
    • Enterprise asset management (EAM) (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo)
    • Mobile workforce tools
    • GIS and operational data systems
    • Contact centre, CRM, billing, and SCADA systems
