Training Specialist – Thurnscoe, Barnsley
Full-time • Reporting to Warehouse Operations Manager

Job Summary
We’re hiring a Training Specialist based in Thurnscoe, Barnsley, to drive hands-on training, competency assessments, and operational excellence within our fast-paced warehouse environment.
Key Responsibilities

Training & Coaching
- Deliver hands-on training in warehouse operations and safe working practices.
- Provide real-time support to colleagues to ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct competency assessments and sign-offs across warehouse functions.
- Identify skills gaps and deliver targeted coaching interventions.

Onboarding & Development
- Support new starter integration in live operational environments.
- Ensure new hires achieve required competency levels safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate training records, competency matrices, and documentation.

Operational Training & Compliance
- Monitor training expiry dates, refreshers, and recertifications.
- Ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements.
- Support process optimisations, system rollouts, and equipment training.

- Build effective relationships with colleagues, Team Leaders, Supervisors, and Managers.
- Address recurring training issues with actionable solutions.
- Adapt to operational fast-paced demands with clear, structured communication.

Required Skills & Experience

Warehouse & Operational Expertise:
- Proven experience in warehouse, logistics, or distribution environments.
- Strong knowledge of distribution centre processes and compliance.

Training & Coaching Skills:
- Expertise in delivering operational training, mentoring, and competency assessment.
- Hands-on experience in new starter onboarding and development programmes.

Soft Skills:
- Exceptional coaching, mentoring, and interpersonal abilities.
- High attention to detail for records and compliance.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback with a focus on behavioural improvement.

RTITB Certification:
- Desirable: RTITB MHE (Manual Handling Equipment) certification.
- Preferred: Experience with warehouse safety training (e.g., PALs sessions, forklift operations).

Working Style:
- Thrives in fast-paced environments with fluctuating demands.
- Organised with multitasking skills to balance floor work and documentation.
- Flexible to a shift-based schedule: 6:00am–10:00pm as required.
Working Pattern
- 37-hour week (Monday–Friday).
- ~80% warehouse floor engagement + planning, reporting, and record management.
- Flexible timing based on operational support needs.
