Training Supervisor (LGV Driver & Frontline Trainer)
Training Supervisor – Biffa Manchester
Shift Details
- Hours: Monday – Friday (with flexible hours and available overnight/weekend cover)
- Core Shift: 06:00–14:15 (Flexible adjustments possible upon request with managerial approval)
About the Role
You will deliver essential training for drivers, loaders, operatives, and supervisors across Biffa’s recycling and waste management contracts in Manchester. Your responsibilities include ensuring all employees are fully competent to perform their roles safely and efficiently.
Key criteria:
- Demonstrable experience in a training or mentoring role, or
- Longstanding industry experience as a waste management driver in a service-facing sector
- Category C (Class 2) driving licence with practical experience operating various vehicle types
- Deep commitment to health, safety, and compliance in the waste sector
This role is crucial in maintaining Biffa’s safety-first culture across operational teams.

Core Responsibilities
Operational Support
- Support Crew Monitoring, Vehicle Gate Checks, and Route Risk Assessments to meet contractual performance targets
- Identify and address unsafely practices during checks, coaching staff on corrective actions
- Report major vehicle cleanliness/condition issues to the Business Manager
Training Delivery
- Deliver training consistently to Biffa Group Standards and contractual requirements
- Customise content to match operational needs and contractual specifications
Driver Coaching & Compliance
- Improve driver skills to reduce accidents and prevent Operator Licence contraventions
- Alert Business Managers if drivers fall below minimum competency thresholds
Depot-Based Training (DCBT)
Lead the following workplace adaptations: ✔ Wheel torquing procedures ✔ Manual handling safety ✔ Vehicle defect checks ✔ Smartphone/PDA in-cab operation ✔ Tachograph and logbook compliance ✔ Driver performance debriefs

Essential Requirements
- LGV Category C (Class 2) driving licence
- Valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
- Due diligence of relevant transport legislation and industry regulations
- Prior experience in waste management, logistics, or customer service
- Operational awarenss of time-critical services demands
- Proficient in IT systems (Microsoft Office Suite, Biffa-approved software)
- Strong time management and deadline compliance
