Training Supervisor (LGV Driver & Frontline Trainer)
Training Supervisor – Manchester
About the Role
- Hours: Monday-Friday (with optional overtime and flexible hours, including weekend cover when required)
- Shift Times: 06:00 – 14:15 (flexible arrangements may be possible by request)
- Location: Biffa’s recycling and waste management contracts in Manchester
You will deliver essential training to drivers, loaders, operatives, and supervisors while ensuring they are fully prepared to meet operational demands. With experience either as a training professional or an experienced driver in waste management (or another service sector), you’ll foster a health and safety-focused culture crucial to Biffa’s operations.
To excel in this role, you’ll need:
- A Category C (Class 2) driving licence
- Proven driving experience with various vehicles
- Previous training role or industry experience
Core Responsibilities
Operational Support
- Support depots in meeting Vehicle Gate Check, Crew Monitoring, and Route Risk Assessment targets
- Address and correct unsafe or non-compliant behaviours observed during checks
- Report significant vehicle cleanliness or condition issues to the Business Manager

Training Delivery
- Deliver all training consistently to high standards, aligned with Group Training Standards and contractual obligations
- Adjust content to reflect contract specifications and operational needs
Driver Coaching & Compliance
- Coach drivers to enhance skills, reduce accidents, and prevent Operator Licence contraventions
- Escalate drivers falling below competency standards to Business Managers for action
Depot-Based Training (DBT)
Conduct training in key operational practices, including:
- Wheel torquing
- Manual handling
- Vehicle defect checks
- In-cab PDA usage
- Tachographs/logbooks
- Driver debriefs

Requirements
Essential
- LGV Category C (Class 2) Driving Licence
- Valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
- Strong knowledge of transport and relevant legislation
- Previous experience in waste or service industry roles
- Understanding of time-critical service environments
- IT literate (proficient in business software and Microsoft Office Suite)
- Excellent time management with ability to work to tight deadlines
