Transactional Accounts Assistant
Job Description
We're looking for a proactive and detail-focused Transactional Accounts Assistant to join our Finance team in Manchester.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience across transactional finance who enjoys variety, takes pride in delivering accurate work, and wants to broaden their experience across Accounts Receivable, Banking, and Accounts Payable.
Reporting to the Transactional Finance Manager, you'll play an important role in ensuring our day-to-day financial operations run smoothly, while working closely with colleagues across the wider business.
What you'll be doing:
Accounts Receivable
- Preparing and issuing sales invoices, credit notes, and commission payment instructions
- Allocating customer receipts and investigating unallocated cash
- Resolving customer queries and carrying out credit control activities
- Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation
Banking & Cash Management
- Processing daily cashbook transactions, ensuring accurate coding and posting within our finance system
- Investigating discrepancies, unreconciled items, and timing differences
- Supporting monthly bank reconciliations
- Processing payments, including sundry and transfer offer payments to clients
- Supporting wider banking activities, including staff expenses, company credit cards, and client compensation payments
- Processing monthly staff expenses
Accounts Payable
- Managing assigned Accounts Payable activities and associated controls
- Supporting supplier payment queries and wider AP processes
- Working within established purchase order and approval procedures
- Assisting with investigations across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Banking

Financial Controls
- Working in line with AJ Bell's financial control framework
- Identifying and escalating issues, discrepancies, or process improvements
- Building positive working relationships across Finance and the wider business
About you:
You'll already have experience working within a transactional finance environment and understand how accurate financial processing supports the wider business.
We're looking for someone who is:
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
- Proactive, reliable, and keen to take ownership of their work
- A confident communicator who enjoys working collaboratively
- Committed to maintaining high standards of accuracy and control
You'll also have:
- Experience working across Accounts Receivable, Banking, and Accounts Payable
- Strong experience with invoicing, cash allocation, and reconciliations
- Experience using an ERP finance system, such as NetSuite or similar
- Good Excel and general IT skills
It would be great if you have:
- Experience working within a regulated or highly controlled environment
- Experience processing high transaction volumes across multiple legal entities
Requirements
- Minimum of six GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above
- Previous experience in a transactional finance role covering Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Banking
