Transfer Station Manager

Salary: £55,000 plus performance bonus, company car/car cash allowance, pension & many other Veolia benefits

Hours: 40 per week, Monday to Friday

Location: Southwark, London

What you will be doing

  • Oversee all Transfer Station operations and manage waste transportation and processing logistics
  • Develop and implement weekly and monthly operational plans that drive efficiency and meet performance targets
  • Ensure waste is efficiently collected, transported, and processed in compliance with environmental regulations
  • Monitor performance against KPIs and identify opportunities for innovation and cost-saving improvements
  • Provide full accountability for approximately 40 Transfer Station and Logistics staff members
  • Supervise, coach, and develop team members to maintain high performance standards
  • Lead with visible, authentic leadership that inspires and motivates the team
  • Plan for resource allocation, training needs, and workforce development
  • Hold full responsibility for all QHSE matters within the department
  • Conduct and oversee Health & Safety investigations
  • Ensure compliance with Veolia Management Requirements and regulatory requirements through regular audits and statutory reporting
  • Create a safety-first culture where everyone feels empowered to speak up
  • Develop and propose annual budgets for discussion with Plant Manager and senior leadership
  • Support contractual negotiations with guidance from Plant Manager and Regional Manager
  • Drive cost-saving solutions while maintaining operational excellence

What we are looking for

  • Proven track record leading operational teams in waste transfer or similar industrial environments
  • Strong safety leadership with knowledge of process safety management and incident prevention
  • Thorough understanding of waste management regulations, VMR, and Environmental Permit conditions
  • Experience developing and managing operational budgets and financial controls
  • Ability to set, communicate and drive clear operational targets and KPIs
  • Skilled at providing constructive feedback and implementing corrective actions
  • True leadership presence that inspires trust, motivates teams, and celebrates successes
  • Leads from the front with genuine enthusiasm for developing people and operational excellence
  • A leader who builds trust, develops future leaders, and makes tough decisions with compassion
  • Someone who is visible, accessible, and authentic in all interactions
