Are you looking for a hands-on role where you can make a real difference to the way waste is managed in London? At Cory, we’re proud to operate four Transfer Stations along the River Thames, playing a vital part in moving waste efficiently and sustainably to our Energy from Waste facility in Belvedere – one of Europe’s largest, processing 850,000 tonnes of waste every year.
This position is based at our Barking Transfer Station, a site that runs 24/7 and is currently undergoing exciting redevelopment to introduce new processing capabilities. As a Transfer Station Operative, you’ll be at the heart of these operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly and safely.
You’ll work as part of a close-knit team, handling household and commercial waste, operating machinery, and keeping the site clean and compliant. Your role will help us maintain high standards and prevent complaints from local residents, making you an essential part of our community-focused approach.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
