Are you a current or former Police Officer seeking a fresh challenge or returning to policing? British Transport Police (BTP) is recruiting a PIP 2-qualified Detective at Sergeant rank to join our Crime Investigation Department in Southampton.
BTP polices and protects 10,000 miles of track and 3,000 railway stations daily—a unique network as vital to Britain as its economy and culture. Your role will drive specialist policing within transport environments, tackling issues you won’t find in any other force.
Your Impact as a Detective Sergeant
- Lead and supervise complex and serious crime investigations across the rail network.
- Oversee high-quality case files, ensuring evidence is secured efficiently and cases progress toward offender detection and prosecution.
- Provide direction and mentorship to detectives while maintaining rigorous investigative standards.
- Work with a flexible, collaborative team to solve challenges that make a real difference to public safety.

Are You Eligible?
Basic Requirements: You must meet all of the following to apply:
- Be a current or former officer from a UK Home Office Force, Police Scotland, or PSNI.
- If a transferee, be substantive in rank and have completed probation.
- As a re-joiner, apply within 5 years of leaving and have been substantive in rank.
- Have ** lived in the UK for the past 3 consecutive years**.
- Hold no live misconduct warnings or active performance concerns.
- Have no live criminal investigations with another force.
- Have no active CCJs, unmanaged IVAs, or bankruptcy.
- Not have been dismissed from another force.
- If applying for locations outside London, you must hold a full UK driving licence.

Role-Specific Eligibility:
- Hold PIP 2 qualification at application.
- Successful applicants with >12 months outside policing will be assessed on a case-by-case basis for any necessary re-accreditation or training.
