Intro

Join us as a Transition & Operational Readiness Lead and play a key role in delivering a major transformation programme. Working on a 12-month fixed term contract, you'll lead transition and operational readiness activities across our DC and CARE arrangements, ensuring a safe, controlled and successful bulk transfer and move into our future operating environment. This role is based in Darlington, with Hybrid working available.

Who We Are

Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds.

Our heritage of looking after the pension needs of the rail industry and its employees gives us our name and our unique outlook on how we serve our members. Railpen takes a holistic view, focusing on how we serve members today and how we can positively impact the communities and the world they will retire into.

The role

As Transition & Operational Readiness Lead, you'll own and lead an integrated workstream covering transition planning, business readiness, cutover, operating model readiness, asset transfer activity and post-go-live support.

You'll develop and maintain integrated transition plans, coordinate readiness activity across programme workstreams and ensure go-live criteria are agreed and successfully delivered before implementation.

You'll also lead the planning and execution of asset transfer activities, ensuring accuracy, control and clear governance while minimising operational and member impact. Alongside this, you'll work with colleagues across the business to ensure future operating models, processes, training and communications are in place to support a successful transition and stable operational delivery from day one.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
