📢 Senior Teaching Assistant (Support for SEMH) – 1 Year Fixed Term (Sep 2026 – Jul 2027)
Nescot College is recruiting for a Senior Teaching Assistant focused on supporting students with Special Educational Needs including SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health). The role is based on our Ewell and Stroudley sites and offers a stimulating environment to make a real difference.
## About the Role
A fixed-term one-year post starting September 2026, reporting directly to the Learning Support Team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting students in our School Links programme
- Working across both Ewell and Stroudley campuses
- Advocating for students in their education and personal life
This is a human-centred role with opportunities for training, professional growth and networking.
## Responsibilities
Key duties include:

Building professional relationships:
- Establish trusting connections with school SENCOs to inform best practice
- Liaise with parents and carers to ensure holistic support

Curriculum driving delivery:
- Share best teaching and learning strategies with curriculum staff
- Attend Annual Reviews for School Links students (assigned as needed)
- Arrange bespoke transition visits for Year 11 students

Promoting college visibility:
- Represent Nescot positively at open days, transition events and feeder school visits

Direct student support:
- Provide in-class assistance, acting as an advocate for students
- Help develop study skills and independence
- Contribute to monitoring and tracking progress

Career progression partnerships:
- Collaborate with the College Careers Team to support students in Supported Internship, employment or further study
## Requirements
We are seeking someone with:
- Confidence and initiative – autonomous in making decisions, professional in representing college values
- Adaptability – to meet the dynamic needs of SEMH students
- Independence and diplomacy – essential for in-class advocacy and parental engagement
- Administration competencies – competence with college IT systems and paperwork
- Previous experience supporting students with SEMH – essential
- Maths and English qualifications – GCSE grade C/4 or above (or evidence of ability to support students at this level)
Brief experience in a specialist or secondary school setting would be advantageous.
