We’re seeking to recruit a Project Management Professional with hands-on experience in Distribution or Transmission Network Planning for high-voltage substation design, specialising in the UK and Ireland sector.
About the Role
WSP has a proven track record supporting utilities, governments, developers, and contractors worldwide across transmission and distribution lifecycles. We combine technical leadership with project management expertise, offering tailored solutions to complex challenges—whether as technical consultants, owner’s engineers, lender’s representatives, or development engineers.
Our work spans:
- Overhead power lines and substations
- Transformers, reactive compensation systems, and HVDC/EHV networks
- SCADA & DMS solutions
- Cables (underground and marine)
The Energy Networks team, a rapidly growing collaboration across UK and Ireland, supports global projects with WSP’s worldwide expertise.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead project team formation and identify external support needs
- Define and secure stakeholder agreement on project deliverables
- Oversee contract delivery, stakeholder (internal & external) relationships, and client engagement
- Develop resource plans and programme schedules, tracking time/costs and progress
- Foresee and manage cost forecasting, risks, change, and quality in delivery
- Oversee engineering design teams to deliver project outcomes
- Support bid teams in crafting proposals and competitive tenders
- Commission consultancy frameworks for client service delivery
Requirements
Essential Criteria:
- 10+ years in energy transmission/distribution project management
- Regulated (UK Realm HOA/ESB entities) and non-regulated utility experience
- Professional project management credentials (APM, PMI or equivalent)
- Strong client liaison and relationship-building skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and experience with Primavera P6 (advantageous)
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
Desirable Traits:
- Syndicated bid-delivery experience
- Direct reporting through tooling (e.g., SolarWinds, United Groupware or OpsView)
