# About the Role

We are seeking a Project Management Professional with expertise in high-voltage substation design, with prior experience providing design or system network planning for Distribution and/or Transmission Companies in the UK and Ireland.

This critical role involves:

  • Forming and managing project teams, identifying additional support requirements beyond WSP Energy Networks.
  • Defining and agreeing project deliverables with the client and project team.
  • Overseeing contract delivery, including managing internal/external stakeholders and client relations.
  • Developing project plans and programmes, controlling time, costs, and resources; monitoring and reporting progress.
  • Leading engineering design resources to develop technical deliverables.
  • Supporting bid teams in proposal and tender responses.
  • Managing risk, change, and quality for successful project completion.
  • Steering consultancy frameworks through key client engagements.

Project Scope WSP specialises in transmission and distribution networks, supporting clients across grid lifecycle stages—from Feasibility & Development to Implementation & Operation.

Our expertise spans:

  • Overhead power lines, towers, transformers, and reactive compensation equipment
  • Substations, switchyards, underground/submarine cables
  • High-voltage direct current (HVDC) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) systems
  • SCADA, DMS, and advanced transmission technologies

The UK/Ireland Energy Networks team operates within WSP’s global capability, ensuring consistent excellence across regional projects.


# Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Project Leadership
    • Establish, document, and manage project teams to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
    • Integrate technical expertise to develop robust project scopes, schematics, and deliverables.
    • Coordinate with contractor and client stakeholders, balancing expectations and resource deployment.

  • Strategic Management

    • Responsible for tender submissions, proposal development, and commercial negotiations.
    • Control and report project schedules, costs, and risk thresholds against approved baselines.
    • Provide client technical and sustainable advice throughout all stages of network development.
  • Stakeholder Engagement

    • Build strategic relationships with utility companies, regulatory bodies, developers, and owners.
    • Facilitate bid responses, client communication, and contract change management.
  • Innovation and Compliance

    • Apply industry-leading standards (HTA, IEE regulations, OFGEM guidelines).
    • Deliver feasibility studies, network design upgrades, relocation projects, and capacity assessments.
    • Work closely with transmission transmission operators (TSOs) and distribution network operators (DHOs) to deliver non-regificant and regulated networks.

# What We Need You to Demonstrate

We are looking for qualified candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Experience & Expertise

    • Strong project management background in power systems, transmission, or distribution engineering.
    • Proven success leading complex projects from feasibility to completion in UK/Ireland.
    • Knowledge of regulated (OFGEM/f లేదు consume regulation) and non-regulated transmission/distribution sector.
    • Experience in substation design, network planning, and HVDC/EHV compliance.
  • Qualifications & Certifications

    • U.K.-Ireland based with relevant engineering or project management qualifications (e.g. Chartered Engineer, APM/PMI credentials).
    • Higher education in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., electrical, civil, or energy engineering).
  • Technical Proficiency

    • Experience using MS Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint) and MS Project. Unlike with a bonus for experience in Primavera P6 or other project planning tools.
    • Strong technical aptitude for power system planning, subtransmission sequencing, and control room engineering.
  • Communication Skills

    • Ability to cut engaging relationship with prisoners, client management, and internal teams.
    • Proven track record for bid management, proposal development, and negotiation.
