About the Role

We’re seeking project management professionals with specialist expertise in high-voltage substation design and network planning for distribution and/or transmission companies in the UK and Ireland.

Your expertise should span:

  • Technical oversight of electrical infrastructure projects
  • Design and system optimisation for substations and networks
  • Cross-client collaboration, bridging utilities, developers, and regulatory bodies

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Scope Control

    • Form and manage project teams, identifying external support requirements beyond WSP’s core offerings.
    • Define, agree, and deliver project outcomes in alignment with client and stakeholder expectations.
    • Oversee contract fulfilment, managing internal and external stakeholders proactively.
  • Programme & Resource Management

    • Develop and execute comprehensive project plans with resourced programmes.
    • Monitor, control, and report progress, exercising cost forecasting, resource allocation, and budget governance.
    • Align engineering teams to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
  • Bid Development & Risk Mitigation

    • Contribute to bid strategies, shaping tender responses for WSP’s proposal pipeline.
    • Act as a risk owner, managing scope changes, quality compliance, and consultancy framework engagements.
  • Technical Influence & Specialisation

    • Lead design integration, leveraging expertise in substations, SCADA systems, HVDC, EHV, and distribution networks.
    • Support innovative solutions delivery, embodying technical leadership for transmission projects.

Requirements

Skills & Experience

You must demonstrate: ✅ Half a decade (f minimum) of project management in energy transmission and distribution, including:

  • Large project delivery leveraging industry-specific knowledge
  • Elevated client interface, relationship management, and proposal development ✅ Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., APM, PMI, BSi STS, NEBOSH or similar) and ✅ Technical credibility in substation design, SCADA systems, or high-voltage network optimisation — with a preference for UK/Ireland experience.

Soft Skills & Certifications

  • Priority given to candidates versed in MS Project or proficient in Primavera P6.
  • Undergraduate tertiary qualification (or equivalent) in engineering (electrical, energy, or project-focused fields).
