About the Role
WSP is seeking Project Management Professionals with expertise in Design or System Network Planning for Distribution and/or Transmission Companies in the UK and Ireland. Ideally, you will bring high-voltage substation design knowledge and a track record of managing complex energy projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Form and lead a multi-disciplinary project team, identifying additional support beyond WSP Energy Networks
- Define and agree project deliverables with clients and internal teams
- Ensure contract compliance and manage relationships with external stakeholders (clients, consultants, regulators)
- Develop detailed project plans, resourced programmes, and timelines for service delivery
- Monitor project progress, time, and costs, adjusting plans against performance metrics
- Direct engineering design teams to produce high-quality project outputs
- Support the bid team in crafting proposals and tender responses
- Manage risk, change, and quality throughout the project lifecycle
- Oversee consultancy services under frameworks and regulatory agreements

WSP’s Energy Networks team delivers projects spanning transmission and distribution for utilities, developers, contractors, and government agencies. We specialise in:
- Overhead lines & substations (including high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and extra high-voltage (EHV))
- Underground/submarine cables, transformers, and reactive compensation equipment
- SCADA and Distributed Management System (DMS) solutions
The role spans UK and Ireland hubs, supported by WSP’s global knowledge base to ensure innovative, cost-effective solutions.
Who We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should possess:
- Proven experience leading transmission/distribution energy projects, from inception to delivery
- In-depth knowledge of the UK-regulated and non-regulated energy networks sector
- Accredited project management qualifications (e.g., APM or PMI)
- Strong ability to build client relationships and liaise effectively with stakeholders
- Proficiency in MS Office (e.g., MS Project variants) with Primavera P6 as a plus
- Relevant higher education qualifications in engineering or project management
