We are seeking Project Management Professionals with experience specialising in Design or System Network Planning for Distribution and / or Transmission Companies in the UK and Ireland, alongside high-voltage substation design expertise.


Key Responsibilities

  • Formation and management of a project team, including the identification of additional support requirements beyond WSP Energy Networks.
  • Definition and agreement of project deliverables with clients and stakeholders.
  • Responsibility for contract delivery, including:
    • Management of external and internal stakeholders.
    • Creation and execution of project plans and milestone programmes.
    • Control of time, budget, and resources against forecasting.
    • Progress monitoring, reporting, and risk management.
  • Cost forecasting and budgetary oversight, ensuring project spend remains within scope.
  • Leadership of engineering design teams in delivering project outcomes.
  • Support to the bid team in developing proposals and tender responses.
  • Risk, change, and quality management throughout project delivery.
  • Experience managing consultancy services via client frameworks.

What We Offer You

WSP has a proven track record assisting utilities, contractors, developers, and government agencies in transmission and distribution projects globally. We leverage our expertise to transform complex challenges into innovative, cost-effective solutions for energy infrastructure systems, including:

  • Overhead lines, power towers, and transformers.
  • High-voltage substations and switchyards.
  • Underground/offshore HVDC and EHV energy networks.
  • SCADA and Distribution Management Systems.

The Energy Networks team—spanning the UK and Ireland—covers every facet of power network development, backed by WSP’s global talent.


Desired Skills & Qualifications

To succeed in this role, we look for:

✔ Proven experience leading transmission and distribution projects (including network planning, sustainability, strategic property, and civil engineering). ✔ Familiarity with UK regulated and non-regulated transmission and distribution sectors. ✔ Professional project management certifications (e.g., APM, PMI). ✔ Strong relationships with clients, backed by negotiating expertise. ✔ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project. ❌ If Primavera P6 or other advanced planning software experience exists, it is a considerable asset.

✔ Higher education degree or equivalent in engineering, management, or a related field.
