Project Management Summer Placement – Transmission Offshore
Duration
12 weeks commencing June 2026
Base Location
Orkney, Shetland, Caithness, Western Isles (Stornoway). Candidates must be based in commutable distance from base location for the duration of the placement
Salary
£26,239 per annum (pro-rata)

What is the role?
Working as part of our multi-disciplined teams, we have a range of opportunities for students to support projects across our Transmission business. We're at the forefront of high-profile projects which are ensuring our transmission network is structurally sound, operating safely and efficiently and providing sustainable and reliable energy to all.

Our Transmission Project Management summer placements provide real hands-on experience through a 12-week placement in one of our project management-based teams. You will have the opportunity to gain practical knowledge into a Project Manager's responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of projects.
This placement is designed to develop your understanding of delivering projects in line with clear objectives and making decisions to manage stakeholder expectations by working with a multi-skilled team to deliver the project to time, cost and quality requirements.

Throughout the placement, you will have the support of a business mentor and buddy, who will provide guidance and support to enable you to reach your full potential.
Our summer placement students work collaboratively in a variety of contexts, while also taking ownership of their role by working under their own direction to drive action forward. There will also be networking and presentation opportunities, specialist sessions, and support from our graduates.
What do I need?
We have opportunities for those studying degrees inclusive of Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
We'd love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us.
We want you to feel confident about what happens next in our recruitment process, which has three stages: Online Testing, Video Interview, and final online assessment.
