Transport Compliance Manager - Wakefield - Up to £45,000
The Role
This Transport Compliance Manager opportunity is with a leading retailer based in Wakefield, operating one of the region's busiest transport operations within a fast-paced distribution environment.
The business is looking for an experienced Transport Compliance Manager to take ownership of transport governance, ensuring the operation remains fully compliant while supporting continuous improvement across safety, legislation, and operational best practice. This is a highly visible role, working closely with operational leadership to embed a strong compliance culture across the transport function.
Working as part of the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain team, you'll play a key role in protecting the integrity of the operation while ensuring the business continues to deliver exceptional service to customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Taking ownership of transport compliance across a busy retail transport operation
- Ensuring full compliance with DVSA, Operator Licence requirements, drivers' hours, and Working Time Directive legislation
- Managing internal transport audits and preparing the operation for external inspections
- Monitoring driver performance, licence checks, tachograph compliance, and vehicle defect processes
- Reviewing transport policies and implementing improvements to ensure best practice is maintained
- Investigating compliance issues and implementing corrective actions where required
- Delivering compliance training and supporting the ongoing development of transport teams
- Working closely with operational leadership and the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain teams to promote a culture of compliance and continuous improvement
- Producing compliance reports, KPIs, and recommendations for senior stakeholders

Key Experience
- Previous experience operating as a Transport Compliance Manager, Transport Manager, or Compliance Manager within a transport or distribution environment
- Strong knowledge of Operator Licence legislation, DVSA requirements, drivers' hours, and Working Time Directive regulations
- Experience conducting transport audits and managing compliance processes within a busy operation
- Excellent understanding of transport legislation and regulatory best practice
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence operational teams
- Experience working within a Logistics distribution and supply chain environment
- National CPC qualification would be highly advantageous
- A proactive, detail-focused approach with a passion for maintaining operational excellence
