What you can expect
Job Title - Transport Controller / Planner
Location – Cannock Depot – on site
Hours – 37.5 hrs pw. Mon – Fri 12pm - 8pm
We are recruiting for a UK Transport Controller / Planner. The Transport Controller / Planner is responsible for the efficient planning and coordination of UK road freight collections and deliveries, ensuring customer requirements are met while maximising operational efficiency. The role requires excellent organisational skills, strong communication with hauliers and customers, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced transport environment.
The successful candidate will ensure all transport activities are completed in line with company procedures, customer expectations, and compliance requirements while maintaining accurate records across internal systems.

What you bring
Transport Planning
- Plan and schedule daily UK collections and deliveries.
- Monitor vehicle movements and proactively manage delays or service issues.
- Monitor daily transport activity to ensure planned work is completed successfully
- Liaise daily with hauliers to ensure collections and deliveries are completed as planned.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with transport partners.
- Resolve transport-related issues in a professional and timely manner.
Administration
- Complete all transport-related administration accurately and within required timescales.
- Maintain accurate shipment records using internal transport management systems.
Operations Control
- Monitor the progress of vehicles, collections and deliveries throughout the day.
- React quickly to delays, breakdowns, traffic issues and customer changes by re-planning work where necessary.
- Prioritise urgent and time-critical shipments to maintain service levels.
- Ensure efficient utilisation of vehicles, hauliers and transport resources.

Partner Management
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with subcontractors and transport partners.
General Duties
- Use internal systems to manage transport operations efficiently.
- Support colleagues across the operations team when required.
- Assist with customer queries and problem resolution.
- Undertake any other reasonable transport-related duties as requested by management.
Essential
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience within UK road freight or transport planning.
- Strong understanding of UK transport operations and logistics.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload effectively.
- High level of organisational and administrative skills.
- Good geographical knowledge of the UK.
- Competent using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS) or other logistics software.
- Strong attention to detail.
Desirable
- Experience managing subcontracted hauliers.
- Knowledge of transport compliance and industry regulations.
- Experience working within pallet network or general haulage operations.
- Understanding of transport KPIs and service performance reporting.
