Transport Controller / Planner
Controller/Planner
Location Thurmaston, Leicester
Shift Pattern 4 on, 4 off (12-hour shifts)
The Role We are seeking organised, analytical individuals with a passion for route planning and logistics to join our team as a Controller/Planner. You will plan and control a high-volume, time-critical transport operation, ensuring scheduled patient journeys meet stringent KPIs, including:
- On-time arrivals
- Turnaround/collection times
- Timely return home
Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently manage the Patient Transport Service (PTS), including allocating patients to the right vehicle type and appropriately skilled crew based on mobility/clinical and safety requirements.
- Collaborate with hospital staff and departments to optimise vehicle and staff utilisation while protecting KPI performance throughout the day.
- Daily planning and dispatch management within the Cleric control system to ensure accurate resourcing and timely communication with sub-contractors, taxis, and volunteers.
- Real-time matching of demand and capacity—prioritising the correct vehicle and crew skill mix for journeys.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant service procedures while maintaining professional and polite handling of requests and queries.
- Handling clerical duties, such as checking booking lists, data input, and ad-hoc forms/invoices.
- Maintaining accurate and updated patient records and delivering high-quality service to patients and customers.

Applicant Requirements Experience Expected:
- Regulated, complex, time-critical operational environments (essential).
- Logistics, control, or route planning roles (desirable).
- Working to time-critical KPIs/service level targets and using operational systems (desirable).
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including dealing with customers or members of the public.
- Commitment to customer-focused service with proven problem-solving and multi-tasking ability.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and act with initiative.
