About the Role
As a Transport Enforcement and Investigations Officer, you will uphold the integrity of London’s transport network and the taxi & private hire industry. Through investigations, enforcement, and intelligence-led approaches, you will:
- Foster a safe, secure, and fair environment for customers, drivers, operators, and colleagues.
- Investigate fare evasion, fraud, licensing violations, and transport offences.
- Conduct intelligence gathering, evidence collection, interviews, and case management.
- Work independently and collaboratively with police forces, local authorities, operators, and stakeholders to reduce non-compliance and enhance public safety.
No two days are the same—this frontline operational role demands varied, proactive, and impactful work essential to London’s transport effectiveness.
Responsibilities
You will be expected to:
- Investigate fare evasion, fraud, and transport-related offences, including:
- Taxi & private hire licensing violations
- Persistent offender profiling and risk assessment
- Gather, analyse, and assess evidence and intelligence to build compelling cases.
- Conduct discreet and structured interviews with:
- Witnesses
- Customers & drivers
- Operators & suspected offenders.
- Prepare professional reports, case files, and evidence briefs for prosecutors, courts, or internal investigations.
- Support enforcement operations across bus, tube, rail, taxi, and private hire networks.
- Work with police, licensing authorities, and enforcement partners to secure regulatory compliance.
- Present evidence in court proceedings and liaise with legal teams as required.
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure adherence to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.

Requirements
Essential
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written), including ability to:
- Build rapport
- Challenge appropriately
- Present evidence clearly and professionally.
- Critical thinking and attention to detail to assess information, identify patterns, and evaluate evidence in complex scenarios.
- Resilience and professional judgement to handle:
- Conflict de-escalation
- High-pressure situations
- Difficult conversations with neutrality.
- Ability to work independently under tight deadlines while still aligning with team goals.
- Compliance with TfL’s vetting requirements (right-to-work checks) and ability to demonstrate authenticity in your application.
Desirable Experience
This role particularly welcomes candidates from:
- Law enforcement (police, border force, prison service)
- Security, military, or investigative roles
- Regulatory or licensing enforcement (e.g., taxi licensing, public protection, compliance)
- Customer-facing operational posts with conflict-resolution experience
