Our Grocery Service Centre, based near Liverpool, is a hub for transactional activity across multiple ABF companies within the ABF Grocery division. Supporting some of our well-known brands such as Kingsmill, Pataks, Blue Dragon, Jordans, Ryvita and Silver Spoon, amongst others. We deliver Shared Service activities across a wide range of disciplines including Customer Services, Consumer Care, Finance, Payroll, HR and IS.

At Hovis Bakeries, we're looking for a Transport First Line Manager to join our Glasgow team and play a key role in ensuring our products are delivered safely, efficiently and on time. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys leading teams, solving problems and making a real impact in a fast-paced operation.

Working a 4 on, 4 off dayshift pattern, you'll lead a team of drivers, support day-to-day transport operations and help create a safe, high-performing and engaging working environment.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Transport First Line Manager, you'll be responsible for leading and supporting the transport operation while ensuring excellent service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Leading, motivating and developing a team of drivers to deliver outstanding operational performance.
  • Creating and maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with all health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Ensuring full compliance with transport legislation, including Drivers' Hours Regulations, Working Time Directive requirements and company procedures.
  • Monitoring and delivering key operational performance measures, driving continuous improvement across the team.
  • Managing driver briefings and debriefs, providing coaching, feedback and support.
  • Investigating and resolving operational and customer service issues quickly and effectively.
  • Planning and optimising labour resources to meet operational demands.
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding and training activities to build a capable and engaged team.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across transport, distribution, manufacturing and customer-facing teams.

  • Previous experience in a transport, logistics or distribution environment.
  • Experience leading, motivating and developing teams.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience using transport planning, scheduling or fleet management systems.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills.
  • A Transport Manager CPC qualification, or the willingness to work towards achieving one.
  • A full UK driving licence.
