Location: Belfast

About the Role

Based on-site in Belfast, the Transport Line Manager will:

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the smooth and efficient running of day-to-day transport operation activities.
  • Lead the Transport team members by providing direction and monitoring performance to ensure the department runs efficiently and effectively.
  • Deliver a quality service to stores.

Shift Pattern

The role requires a flexible approach, including:

  • 06:00 - 14:30
  • 14:00 - 22:00

Additionally, night shifts will also be required on an ad-hoc basis.


Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead, motivate, and develop the Transport team in a harmonious atmosphere.
  • Lead by example, ensuring company procedures are followed.
  • Organise, plan, and manage daily transport operations.
  • Ensure compliance with transport legislation and procedures, including:
    • Tachographs
    • Digital Driver Cards (Digi Card)
    • Fleet management
    • Good Distribution Practice (GDP)
  • Ensure the safety, health, and welfare of employees.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to implement a flexible, team-based approach.
  • Compile annual budgetary requirements for transport administration, including payroll.
  • Prepare and implement a strategic development plan for transport functions in conjunction with Senior Management.

Experience, Skills, and Education

Essential Criteria

  • Education: Qualified to GCSE standard (or equivalent) with passes at grade C or above in:

    • Mathematics
    • English
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3+ years in a national logistics business with multiple weekly deliveries.
      • Necessary to have experience in transport scheduling.
    • Minimum of 1+ year managing a large team in a fast-moving, customer-oriented transport operation.
    • Must have significant experience in management-level transport operations, including:
      • National & International Transport Managers CPC (Certification of Professional Competence), up to date.
    • Thorough knowledge of distribution operations, including Health & Safety (H&S), HACCP, and broader compliance.

    • Working experience and knowledge of:
      • Budgets (preparation and presentation)
      • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), especially for senior reporting.

      • Extensive experience in spreadsheets and databases.
      • Advanced working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
      • Familiarity with IT software like Stratum and CSNX would be advantageous.
    • Ability to analyse data and interpret them effectively.
