Transport & Logistics Manager

Purpose

The Transport & Logistics Manager is responsible for the effective management of transport operations, fleet compliance, and logistics activities throughout the UK. This role ensures full compliance with transport legislation, health & safety requirements, and fleet management obligations, while delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective transport and logistics solutions to support business operations.

The successful candidate will act as a key point of contact between internal departments, suppliers, freight providers, and regulatory bodies, ensuring operational excellence, legal compliance, and continuous improvement across all transport and logistics activities.


Roles & Responsibilities

Transport & Logistics Management

  • Manage day-to-day transport and logistics operations across the UK and internationally.
    • Coordinate domestic and international deliveries and collections through approved logistics providers.
    • Manage import and export activities (ensure accurate and efficient compliance documentation for customs, shipping, and other requirements).
  • Develop and execute effective logistical planning to meet customer requirements and operational needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with transport providers, freight forwarders, and logistics partners.
    • Negotiate pricing agreements and service contracts to secure cost-effective transport solutions.
  • Monitor logistics costs and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and savings.

Fleet Management & Compliance

  • Oversee the company fleet of service vans and operational vehicles across multiple UK locations.
  • Ensure full adherence to UK legal requirements, including:
    • Servicing, MOTs, taxation, and insurance.
    • Preventative maintenance, repairs, and breakdown support arrangements.
    • 12-weekly PMIs (Pre-Maintenance Inspections) and tail lift inspections.
  • Manage fuel cards, telematics platforms, and fleet insurance programmes.
  • Support fleet replacement programmes and procurement of new vehicles.
  • Coordinate vehicle fit-outs, including:
    • Racking systems, inverters, telematics, dashcams, and specialist equipment installations.
  • Optimise fleet utilisation and improve operational efficiency.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain a working knowledge of Dangerous Goods regulations (ADR, IMDG, and IATA).
  • Ensure compliance with all UK transport legislation, including:
    • DVSA regulations, tachograph requirements, and drivers' hours.
    • LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations).
    • Maintain vehicle safety equipment and load restraint systems.
  • Support internal and external audits for transport, logistics, and fleet compliance.
  • Regulate fleet practices to support the transportation of batteries and related equipment under ADR requirements.

Supplier & Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with suppliers, transport providers, insurers, and internal stakeholders, ensuring effective service delivery.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with external service providers.
  • Monitor supplier performance, identifying opportunities for service improvements and cost savings.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for transport, fleet, and logistics-related enquiries and issues.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in Transport Manager, Fleet Manager, Logistics Manager, or similar operational roles.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • UK transport legislation and fleet compliance requirements.
    • Dangerous Goods regulations (ADR, IMDG, and IATA).
  • Experience managing import and export activities and associated documentation.
  • Knowledge of:
    • DVSA regulations.
    • Tachograph legislation.
    • Drivers' hours requirements.
  • Proven track record of managing supplier relationships and negotiating service agreements.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

  • Promote a positive safety culture throughout the business.
  • Ensure logistics and fleet activities adhere to com company policies and industry regulations.
  • Support audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives in QHSE.
  • Ensure adherence to company procedures and relevant regulatory standards.
