Transport Operations Manager | Gist (working in partnership with M&S)
About the Role
Working in partnership with M&S, at Gist we deliver industry-leading logistics and supply chain transformation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proven Transport Operations Manager to take on a key leadership role as we prepare to move into our newest distribution centre in Avonmouth, leading large teams, managing complexity, and helping to shape a growing operation in a fast-paced FMCG or retail environment. This role is ideally suited to a transport leader with challenging experience gained within FMCG or retail logistics, supply chain, or distribution environments.

Role Details
- Salary: £48,300 - £54,400 (DOE) + Night Shift Premium: £6,004 per annum
- Hours: 37.5 hrs/week
- Working Pattern: Nights | Sunday–Thursday | 21:00–05:00
- Location: Gist Limited, Thornbury, Bristol, BS35 3UT
What You’ll Do
- Set tone for Gist safety initiatives, managing local breaches and compliance
- Improve AVDA performance through operational leadership
- Collaborate with Engineering to ensure fleet safety and legal compliance
- Develop shift managers via IDPs and coaching
- Drive cultural change & Gist values throughout the operation
- Oversee operational excellence (cost & service), including Peak planning & delivery
- Manage operational compliance (legal Operator’s Licence obligations)
- Conduct investigations into non-compliance and conduct site checks
- Lead continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives
Who You Are
Requirements
- Proven Transport Operations Manager-level (or equivalent) experience in large-scale, high-volume transport/distribution
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) for Operators – legally named on an Operator’s Licence with full compliance experience
- End-to-end accountability for transport performance, compliance, and service delivery
- Significant retail/FMCG and/or union experience, with credible stakeholder engagement skills
- Operational leadership in either growing/newly invested operations, embedding best practices
- Driver hours, vehicle standards, and compliance expertise
