Job Description We are looking for an enthusiastic Transport Operations Manager to join our team. You will be responsible for overseeing the resourcing, organizing, and supervising the transport activities. Leading and motivating a team of circa 60, including drivers and warehouse team, leading the operation day to day, supporting the Depot Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee Transport Activities: Resource, organize, and supervise transport operations.
  • Direct Management: Lead a team of around 60 drivers and warehouse staff.
  • Operational Management: Handle day-to-day operations in a busy pallet distribution depot.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain driver induction records, CPC records, licence checks, and training. Supported by the Compliance Supervisor.
  • Customer Relations: Manage key contacts within our customer base.
  • KPI Production: Produce and present KPIs for the business area, setting and measuring financial and operational KPIs.
  • Performance Improvement: Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies.
  • Health & Safety: Monitor and audit health and safety compliance, creating and implementing risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Team Meetings: Regularly meet with teams to ensure efficiency and communication across the operation.
  • Staff Development: Conduct regular 1-2-1s and annual PDR interviews with direct reports. Ensuring teams are regularly trained on relevant activities.
  • Fleet Management: Ensure fleet safety and reliability, collaborating with maintenance providers with support from the Compliance Supervisor.
  • Driver Training: Provide additional training on vehicle checks, company processes, and CPC updates.
  • Debriefs & Gate Checks: Conduct meaningful driver debriefs and gate checks to ensure accountability and legal adherence.

Required Experience

  • Qualifications: Must hold international or national CPC qualification and have previous Transport Management experience.
  • Legal Compliance: Strong understanding of legal compliance, driver's hours, and WTDs.
  • Change Management: Proven track record of leading successful change.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Experience in managing customer relationships.
  • Financial Management: Experience in managing financial budgets and annual P&L responsibility.
  • Management Skills: Strong evidence of management skills and making key business decisions.
  • Team Motivation: Ability to advise and motivate the team to deliver results.
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to present to senior key contacts and external customers.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • IT Skills: Proficient in MS Office with strong analytical abilities for reviewing data and reports.
