Job Title: Transport Planner

Due to continued expansion, we are seeking a Transport Planner to join our team in Selby.
About The Role
To effectively plan (multi) site transport activities fully utilising own vehicle and sub contract haulage, to the required levels of customer service, and to achieve an own vehicle revenue target per day, whilst also adhering to Drivers hours legislation and maintenance requirements.
To build and maintain a relationship with each customer, and to communicate to them, any problems, issues or queries in good time, and to assist them in any way possible.
To issue drivers with clear instructions and to react to any changing situation that develops on a day to day basis.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan the Fleet, and use of subcontractors, to deliver a load plan which meets all the Customer’s delivery time windows, whilst operating at minimum cost to the business.
- Work with the Transport Manager and the other load planner to achieve the required levels of revenue per day on own vehicles.
- Achieve third party backhaul revenues to the required level each week.
- Plan the use of subcontractors to keep subcontractor revenues within the required levels of overall revenue and to achieve the minimum required margins.
- Log on to the Transport Management system each day ensuring that all work that has been load planned and provides a complete and accurate traffic sheet at the end of each day for the following days work for all vehicles.
- Complete the traffic sheet each day, and brief all drivers on the following days requirements regarding start time, load details etc.
- Maintain regular contact with Customers to fully satisfy all service requirements.
- Contact all drivers each day to confirm the load plan is being adhered to and take appropriate corrective action when deviations from the plan are identified. Maintain more frequent contact throughout the day with agency drivers.
- Show flexibility towards start times and working hours, with the occasional need to work unsociable shifts.
- Fully utilise all IT systems and maintain system files in good order liaising with Transport Manager & Supervisor regarding system management, systems training and back up procedures.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications And Experience Required
- CPC National highly desirable
- Ideally some experience with general haulage, pallet network and groupage.
- Experience of load planning, (preferably multi site) and knowledge of vehicle utilisation.
- Ability to work well as part of a team or individually at times, often in a high pressured environment, and to establish effective working relationships at all levels of the business.
- Good communication skills to issue instructions.
- IT literate; competent with TMS and other software applications.
