Transport Operator / Transport Planner Location: Leeds, LS10 Salary: £29,742 - £38,500 per annum (DOE) Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Our client, a well-established transport and logistics business based in Leeds (LS10), is seeking a Transport Operator / Transport Planner to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and proactive individual with transport planning or logistics experience to join a busy and fast-paced operation.
The Role
Working as part of the transport team, you will support the planning function to ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of the fleet. You'll liaise with drivers and customers, respond to operational issues as they arise, and help ensure deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
Working Hours
- 10-hour shifts (including a 1-hour unpaid lunch break)
- Working between 6:00am and 6:00pm
- Hours may vary to meet operational requirements and provide shift cover.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Transport Planning team to achieve daily delivery and operational targets.
- Assist with transport planning and driver communications.
- Monitor vehicle movements and make real-time operational decisions to resolve delays and disruptions.
- Analyse operational data to identify trends and support continuous improvement.
- Build strong working relationships with customers and drivers, delivering a high level of customer service.
- Maintain accurate records and generate reports using transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Use systems including TOPS, VBS platforms, Excel and Word.
- Work in line with the company's values, promoting honesty, transparency and teamwork across the operation.

The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience within a transport planning, transport operations or logistics environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Good IT skills with experience using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Able to work effectively under pressure and prioritise workloads.
- Customer-focused with a proactive approach to problem solving.

Desirable Experience
- Experience using TOPS (container transport system).
- Experience using various Vehicle Booking Systems (VBS).
- Previous experience within container haulage or a container transport environment.
