Transport Planner
Trade Planner – Transportation & Logistics (London Gateway)
Freightliner is the UK’s largest maritime intermodal logistics operator, transporting containers from all major deep-sea ports to our national network of inland terminals. Role Overview
We are seeking a Transport Planner to support our award-winning Transport Planning team at London Gateway (Stanford-le-Hope).
Position Summary
As a Transport Planner, you will:
- Plan vehicles efficiently, ensuring maximum utilisation and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate across multiple depots UK-wide to provide seamless logistics solutions.
- Operate within a strict health and safety-first culture and a performance-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Operations
- Produce a daily transport plan aligned with customer orders and expectations, optimising vehicle timings.
- Maximise fleet efficiency to support daily revenue targets.
- Generate new work quotations and manage subcontractor resources effectively.
- Negotiate subcontractor rates to ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Attend daily planning review meetings, approving the next-day and night shift routes.

Cost & Customer Service
- Ensure best-cost solutions for operative plans.
- Maintain accredit customer service levels across all accounts.
- Update systems accurately, leveraging full functionality.
System & Team Support
- Work closely with depots across the UK, creating cohesive cross-regional services.
- Collaborate with colleagues under a health and safety-first priority.
About You
Essential Criteria
- Comprehensive knowledge of Tachograph regulators, working time directives, and drivers’ hours.
- Proven transport planning experience, particularly in container transport.
- Exceptional organizational skills and geographical awareness.
- Proficiency in IT tools, including experience with TOPS, Destin8, and VBS systems.
- Strong communication skills and systematic problem-solving abilities.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Transport Manager CPC (Certification of Professional Competence) or a desire to pursue this qualification.
