Transport Planner (Data/Strategy)

Transport Planner - Data/Strategy

Ealing Council has published an ambitious Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy, and we are working on a new Transport Strategy. Supporting active and sustainable travel is a key goal, with our work focusing on cycling, walking, public transport and electric vehicles.

To support these goals, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to manage and analyse transport data, to inform our strategy and help us fulfil our ambitions. As part of Ealing’s award-winning Transport Planning team, you will work with data on active and sustainable transport projects, enabling more people to walk, wheel, cycle and use public transport in the borough.

We are looking for someone organised and self-motivated, with good data analysis skills and familiarity with tools like Excel and GIS. You will need to handle a varied workload, as this role involves both policy and statistical analysis, including contributing to the Local Implementation Plan, mapping datasets, and collecting and monitoring transport KPIs such as road casualty data. You will have a keen interest in sustainability and/or transport. You will have either a relevant degree (environmental studies, transport planning, or a related discipline) or equivalent experience.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
