Transport Planning Engineer
Senior Transport Planning Engineer
Supervisor Level: SCGT34 (£34,434 - £40,777 per annum pro rata)
Location: Hybrid working (Endeavour House, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 2BX)
Hours: 37 hours per week | Flexible working options available

The Role
Join our dynamic Transport Planning Team as a Transport Planning Engineer. This opportunity will see you play a pivotal role in shaping Suffolk’s future growth, balancing development with sustainable transport solutions. You will:
Core Responsibilities
- Lead transport planning consultations on behalf of the Local Highway Authority, advising on transport policies, schemes, and interventions for new development.
- Engage with developers, national and local planning authorities to agree high-quality, implementable design principles that advance both economic growth and infrastructure improvements.
- Assess planning applications, ensuring they align with national and local transport policy priorities while contributing to more accessible, inclusive communities.
- Support the development of town-wide and strategic transport plans in collaboration with colleagues, identifying innovative solutions that enhance connectivity and foster long-term sustainable mobility.
- Advocate for active travel objectives, such as improved pedestrian and cycle routes, while securing funding for major transport infrastructure projects.
Key Requirements
To succeed in this role, we require:
- Passion for promoting high standards of sustainable transport in new developments, including knowledge of high-standard accessibility and highway safety.
- Strong understanding of highway design principles and relevant sections of the Highway Act, including navigation of section 106 agreements.
- Confident representative skills to provide expert advice at internal and external meetings, particularly in challenging or contentious situations.
- Relevant professional background in highway planning, transport engineering, or development planning (melioration and demotion processes qualifications would be advantageous).
