Transport Planning Manager Location: Barnsley Salary: £35,000 – £39,000 (08:00 – 18:00, Monday to Friday)
About the Role
This Transport Planning Manager opportunity is with a growing 3PL operation based in Barnsley. The role supports a busy, customer-focused transport function within a fast-paced distribution environment.
The business is seeking an ambitious Transport Planning Manager eager to take the next step in their career. This position is ideal for an experienced Senior Transport Planner or Transport Planner looking to assume their first leadership role, offering the opportunity to lead a planning function while remaining engaged in daily operations.
Responsibilities include collaborating with the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain team to ensure transport plans are efficient, customer expectations are surpassed, and operational costs are optimally managed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day transport planning function across a busy 3PL operation.
- Manage and develop the transport planning team to deliverExceptional service levels.
- Produce efficient daily transport plans to maximise fleet utilisation and minimise operational costs.
- Monitor live operations, with the agility to adapt to changing customer requirements.
- Work closely with drivers, warehouse teams, and the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain operation to ensure seamless delivery performance.
- Oversee the management of customer expectations while maintaining high service standards.
- Track planning KPIs and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with transport legislation, drivers' hours, and company procedures.

Key Experience & Requirements
- Proven experience in a transport planning environment, preferably as a Senior Transport Planner or experienced Transport Planner.
- Aspiration for (or existing experience in) Transport Planning Manager or similar leadership roles.
- Background in 3PL, retail, or fast-paced logistics environments.
- Strong route planning, fleet utilisation, and transport legislation expertise.
- Outstanding communication and leadership abilities, with the capacity to develop a planning team.
- Experience working in Logistics distribution and supply chain operations.
- Strong commercial awareness, emphasising service, efficiency, and cost control.
- Proficiency in using Transport Management Systems (TMS) and transport planning software.
