About Our Client

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) is a leading UK charity dedicated to saving lives and preventing serious injuries. For more than 100 years, RoSPA has influenced public policy, raised safety standards and driven behavioural change across road, workplace, home and leisure safety.

Operating across the UK and internationally, RoSPA has an annual turnover of approximately £9 million and employs over 90 staff. Alongside its charitable activities in research, policy and campaigning, the organisation delivers a range of commercial services including consultancy, training, qualifications, events and awards.

Job Description

  • Serve as Treasurer Trustee and member of the Board.
  • Support the Board in setting strategic direction and organisational priorities.
  • Provide oversight of financial governance, financial performance and risk management.
  • Work closely with the Finance Director, Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Chair the Audit & Risk Committee (ARCom).
  • Support oversight of investment strategy and pension arrangements.
  • Monitor financial systems, controls and organisational resources.
  • Liaise with external auditors and investment advisers as required.
  • Ensure effective stewardship of the charity's assets and reputation.
  • Contribute to strong governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Act as an ambassador for RoSPA and its mission to prevent accidents and save lives.

The Successful Applicant

  • Should be a qualified accountant, ideally chartered, with broad experience of having worked within the charity and/or commercial sectors
  • Be a serving or have served as a Financial Director of a large charity and/or medium sized commercial business
  • Have experience of investment strategy, pension funds, financial systems, financial risk management and of liaising with external auditors and investment advisers.

What's on Offer

  • The role is unpaid, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
  • Board and committee meetings are usually held at RoSPA's Head Office in Edgbaston, Birmingham and via Microsoft Teams.
  • Approximately 10-12 days per year are required, including four Board meetings, committee meetings, strategy day and preparation time.
  • Initially three years, with the possibility of two further three-year terms to be served.
