Company Description

Transition Edinburgh South (TES) is a friendly grassroots community group that is part of the wider Transition Movement. TES supports local communities to reduce their carbon footprint and strengthen resilience and sustainability in response to climate change and resource challenges. The group uses creative, community-led approaches to explore practical ways of making the local area more environmentally and socially sustainable. TES provides a welcoming space where people can bring ideas, collaborate, and turn them into concrete actions. Individuals who are passionate about sustainability, community empowerment, and climate action will find TES an engaging and purpose-driven environment.

Role Description

The Treasurer is a full-time, on-site role based in Edinburgh, responsible for managing the financial affairs of Transition Edinburgh South. Day-to-day tasks include:

  • Overseeing budgets

The Treasurer will manage banking activities, process payments and reimbursements, and ensure appropriate financial controls are in place. The role also involves:

  • Supporting funding applications
  • Monitoring grant conditions
  • Assisting with annual accounts and audits
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant financial and charitable regulations

The Treasurer will work closely with other team members to align financial planning with project priorities and the overall mission of TES.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in bookkeeping, budgeting, and financial reporting, with the ability to maintain accurate and transparent records.
  • Experience with accounting software, spreadsheets, and general financial administration in a nonprofit, community group, or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of charity or community organization financial regulations, including compliance, governance, and audit processes.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-specialists.
  • Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively with volunteers, community members, and partner organizations.
  • Commitment to sustainability, climate action, and community-led initiatives, with alignment to TES values and goals.
  • Relevant qualification in finance, accounting, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience in a similar Treasurer or finance role.
