Help guide the financial future of one of Battersea's oldest charities
We're looking for a Treasurer Trustee to chair our Finance Committee and provide strategic oversight as we continue supporting older people, refugee families and young people across the borough.
What difference will you make?
Every year, Katherine Low Settlement supports more than 1,000 local people through our work with older people, refugee and newly arrived children, young people and families. We're also a base for a number of other local charities and community groups, so our financial health has a knock-on effect for the wider voluntary sector in Battersea.
A strong Treasurer helps us stay financially sustainable and well governed, which means we can keep delivering these services with confidence rather than uncertainty. Good financial oversight also strengthens our relationships with funders and commissioners, who need to see that we manage money responsibly and plan ahead.
By bringing financial expertise to our Board, a new Treasurer will help us make better strategic decisions, spot risks and opportunities earlier, and ensure resources are directed where they're needed most. In short, this role protects and grows our ability to support the Battersea community for generations to come.
What are we looking for?
We're looking for someone with financial confidence, sound judgement and the ability to help others understand financial information clearly. You might have experience in finance, accountancy, audit, charity finance, grant management or governance. A professional accountancy qualification is welcome but not essential; what matters most is your ability to bring rigour and clarity to financial decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

As Treasurer, you'll chair our Finance Committee, so some experience of chairing meetings or working within a governance structure would be helpful, though we're happy to support the right candidate to grow into this.
We particularly value trustees who can translate financial detail into plain terms for colleagues who aren't finance specialists, so the whole Board can engage confidently with our financial position.
Katherine Low Settlement works with a wide range of communities across Battersea, including older people, refugee and newly arrived families, and young people. We're keen to hear from candidates who reflect the diversity of the people we support, including those with lived experience of the communities we serve, and we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds.
Above all, we're looking for someone who shares our commitment to reducing poverty, tackling isolation and building stronger communities in Battersea, and who wants to use their financial skills to help us do that well.

We're looking for a new Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. Our current Treasurer is stepping down after a strong period of financial stewardship, and we want to bring in someone who can build on that foundation as we move into our next chapter.
As Treasurer, you'll chair our Finance Committee and provide strategic financial oversight, working closely with fellow trustees, our CEO and senior leadership team. You'll help the Board understand our financial position clearly, so trustees can make confident, well-informed decisions about the organisation's future. This includes reviewing management accounts, overseeing budgeting and reserves policy, liaising with our external auditors, and ensuring sound financial controls are in place.
Beyond the numbers, we want a Treasurer who can act as a critical friend to the organisation someone who asks good questions, brings clarity to financial information for trustees who aren't finance specialists, and helps the Board think strategically about sustainability and risk.
The role involves six Board meetings a year, held in person, plus monthly Finance Committee meetings held online. Altogether this amounts to around 4 to 8 hours a month.
