About the Role
We are seeking two enthusiastic and conscientious trust grade doctors who have completed foundation training or equivalent, with some prior experience in psychiatry. These roles are designed to support your professional development and help you plan your future career in psychiatry, general practice, or other medical fields.
- Tenure: Fixed term posts (12 months)
- Working hours: 10 sessions per week (40 hours), based primarily at Alderney Hospital, Poole
- Wards: Older People’s Mental Health Inpatient Wards – St Brelades (male) Ward and Herm Ward (female)
Responsibilities
As a trust grade doctor, your responsibilities include:
- Primary duty of one-on-one collaboration with a consultant psychiatrist on one ward
- Supporting cross-cover for days off with another trainee (equivalent level) within the Older People’s Mental Health (OPMH) unit at Alderney Hospital
- Assisting in:
- Assessment of patients’ physical and mental health
- Management and planning of discharge arrangements
- Collaboration with community teams and general hospitals
- Clinical documentation (discharge summaries, correspondence)

- Supervised by the Consultant Psychiatrist, working within Trust mental health services
Learning & Development Opportunities
- Strong emphasis on learning: Structured opportunity to refine and specialise
- 15 days study leave per 6 months
- Study budget: £300 per annum
- Weekly journal club participation
- Support arranging special interest training sessions in specialist services
Additional Information
- Employment requirement: Enhanced DBS check, covered by the Trust
- Secondment only: Roles are available for existing NHS employees only (permission required)
- Application eligibility: Current Skilled Worker visa sponsorship is not available
