At the British Safety Council, we believe that no one should be injured or made ill through their work. For almost 70 years, we have worked with organisations around the world to improve workplace health, safety and wellbeing, helping millions of people return home safe every day. As we approach our 70th anniversary in 2027, this is an exciting time to join our Board of Trustees and help shape the next chapter of our organisation.
We are seeking a new Trustee to join our Board with experience in investment management. This appointment follows the completion of a Trustee's term and provides an opportunity to continue the valuable oversight of the British Safety Council's investment fund.
We are looking for someone who can:
- Bring experience in investment management. (must have)
- Help oversee the external management of the British Safety Council's investment fund, providing constructive challenge and independent oversight where appropriate.
- Offer independent judgement and balanced thinking in Board discussions.
- Contribute to good governance and the long-term sustainability of the organisation.
- Build positive relationships with fellow Trustees, Executive Directors and senior leaders.
- Represent the British Safety Council with professionalism, integrity and credibility.
- Champion our purpose and live our values of Human, Courage, Inclusivity and Commitment.

Whilst experience within the charity or health and safety sectors is not necessary, we are looking for someone with a genuine interest in supporting an organisation that creates positive impact.
Time commitment
This is an unremunerated voluntary Trustee appointment. The Board meets approximately four times a year, with meetings held both virtually and in person. Trustees also attend an annual strategy session and may occasionally participate in Board committees or other events.
