Coventry Independent Advice Service is a local charity that provides free, independent, and confidential advice to residents of Coventry and the surrounding area. We have been offering advice and support to our communities for over 30 years. We hold the national Advice Quality Standard in recognition of the high standard of advice and support we provide with benefit issues, debt problems and more. Our skilled advisers deliver services at community locations across the city, helping to ensure accessibility.

Role description

As a Trustee, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, ensuring the charity fulfils its mission for the community. You will contribute to decision-making, financial and governance oversight, and policy development.

  • You will need to be able to attend trustee board meetings, which are usually held every 6-8 weeks and last around 2 hours, plus preparation time (reading reports and management accounts, for example).
  • We also have an annual trustee strategy session which generally lasts for half a day.

The role is a voluntary, unpaid, position but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

About you

  • No previous trustee or board experience is required. You just need to be able to think critically, be a confident communicator and demonstrate a commitment to our work.
  • We are particularly keen to hear from you if you have lived experience of the problems our clients face and/or experience in finance or fundraising as these are areas of strategic importance to our charity.
