Trustee – Astrum College
Astrum College helps young adults with SEND earn their first real paid job through supported internships. We're recruiting a Trustee to help more of them get there—your decisions shaping their future. Join a small, friendly board doing life-changing work. No experience needed—just commit to making a difference.
What Difference Will You Make?
As a Trustee at Astrum College, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our board grows the College safely and confidently during this critical early stage. Your judgement and oversight will help us:
- Open more internship places for young adults with SEND
- Build stronger partnerships with employers
- Keep young people at the heart of every decision
In practical terms, strong governance directly impacts our ability to support more young people into paid employment. Every Trustee contributes to making this vision a reality.
What Are We Looking For?
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about inclusion and committed to helping young people overcome barriers. Ideally, you’ll bring at least three years of professional experience in one or more of these areas:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Finance, fundraising, law, or governance (to help a young charity grow on strong foundations)
- Leadership or strategic development/planning (from any sector)
- Change management (guiding an organisation through growth)
- Safeguarding (essential when working with young people with SEND)
- Education, advice/advocacy, or mentoring/coaching (ideally with knowledge of SEND, health, or employment support)
While we’d love to have strong expertise in these areas, what matters most is your judgement, integrity, sincerity, and a willingness to listen and ask tough questions. Above all, we want Trustees who are genuinely committed to inclusion and opportunity for young adults with SEND.
An additional strength would be lived experience with disability or supporting someone with SEND—this insight would bring invaluable perspectives to the Board.
We Want a Board That Reflects Us
You don’t have to be an accountant, an education professional, or a governance expert to contribute—we welcome people from all backgrounds.
