I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Hybrid
What will you be doing?
As a Trustee at Fresh Horizons CNB, you will play a vital role in shaping the future direction of a growing charity that is transforming the lives of individuals moving on from homelessness.
This is a particularly exciting time to join us. Over the past year, we have strengthened our operational foundations, improved our housing provision, and increased our community reach through our food support services. As we look ahead, we are preparing for the next phase of growth — including expanding our supported accommodation to serve both men and women, and building a more sustainable and scalable organisational model.
The Board will be central to guiding this transition. We are entering a period where key strategic decisions will be made around growth, funding stability, service expansion, and operational resilience. This includes strengthening our income streams, refining our people structures, and ensuring we have the right governance in place to support long-term impact.
For this reason, we are particularly interested in individuals with experience in fundraising, ideally within organisations that have experienced growth, change, or increasing complexity. Experience in organisational development, income generation, or building sustainable systems would be highly valuable at this stage of our journey.
Our Board works closely with the senior leadership team and takes a hands-on, supportive, and collaborative approach. We aim to balance strategic oversight with practical input where appropriate, and Trustees often have the opportunity to contribute more deeply through focused areas such as fundraising development.
We are proud of our values-driven culture — grounded in compassion, accountability, and a genuine desire to see people rebuild their lives. As a Trustee, you will not only help shape strategy, but also contribute to a mission that delivers real, tangible change in people’s lives.
Over the next three years, we believe Fresh Horizons CNB has the potential to significantly expand its reach and deepen its impact. This is an opportunity to be part of that journey — helping to build a stronger, more resilient organisation that supports even more individuals into stable, independent living.
