Bexley Moorings Project
Bexley Moorings Project is seeking an HR Trustee to join our Board. Help shape people strategy, support staff and volunteers, strengthen governance, and ensure we continue delivering life-changing services for children, young people and families across Bexley.
What difference will you make?
As an HR Trustee, you will help ensure our Board has access to specialist people expertise as we continue to grow and develop our services. Your guidance will support us in strengthening our HR policies, workforce planning, recruitment and retention practices, helping us build a resilient and sustainable organisation.
With a small Board and growing staff team, your insight will provide valuable strategic oversight on employment matters, staff wellbeing, organisational culture and compliance with employment legislation. You will help us ensure that our people are supported, valued and equipped to deliver the best possible outcomes for children, young people and families.
Over the coming years, we also want to review and strengthen our people strategy, ensuring we remain an attractive employer and volunteer organisation. The HR Trustee will play a key role in helping shape this work, influencing decisions that will directly support our long-term sustainability, growth and impact within the local community.
What are we looking for?
We are seeking a trustee with professional HR experience and a good understanding of employment law, people management and organisational development. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker who can provide constructive challenge and support, with a commitment to our mission and values. Previous board or trustee experience is welcome but not essential, and we encourage applications from individuals who are passionate about using their skills to make a positive impact in the local community.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

What will you be doing?
Bexley Moorings Project currently has a small but dedicated Board of four trustees who meet every two months to provide strategic oversight, support the leadership team and help guide the organisation's future direction. Our trustees bring a range of professional and lived experience and are united by a commitment to improving outcomes for children, young people and families across Bexley.
As the charity continues to grow, one of our key priorities is ensuring that our people, policies and organisational culture remain strong and fit for the future. We employ staff and work with volunteers who deliver a range of valuable services, and we recognise the importance of having specialist HR expertise at Board level to help us navigate an increasingly complex employment landscape.
We are therefore seeking an HR Trustee who can provide strategic guidance on people-related matters and support the development of effective employment practices. Our key challenges include attracting and retaining talented staff and volunteers, supporting wellbeing, ensuring compliance with employment legislation, and creating a positive, inclusive culture that enables people to thrive. We are also keen to strengthen our workforce planning, recruitment processes, learning and development opportunities, and overall people strategy.

The successful trustee will play a vital role in helping us achieve these goals. Responsibilities will include advising the Board and senior leadership team on HR matters, supporting the review and development of policies and procedures, providing oversight of employment and governance issues, and acting as a critical friend on workforce-related decisions. The HR Trustee may also be asked to contribute to short-term working groups or subcommittees established to support organisational development and specific projects.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a genuine impact. Bexley Moorings Project has been supporting local children, young people and families for over 40 years, and demand for our services continues to grow. As an HR Trustee, you will help ensure that the people delivering these services are supported, valued and equipped to make a difference. Your expertise will directly contribute to the sustainability and development of the charity, helping us build a resilient organisation that can continue changing lives for years to come.
For someone looking to use their professional HR skills in a meaningful way, this is a chance to influence strategic decisions, develop governance experience, and support a well-respected local charity at an important stage in its development.
