Location: Portsmouth

Hours: 15 hours a week (part time) term time only (must be available Monday:Friday)

Pay: GBP30:35 per hour

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate tutor to support a autistic child with ASD and some SEMH needs. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child's life by creating a positive and responsive learning environment. You will be working two:to:one with the young person, primarily within a home and school. This role will require some planning (alongside class teachers) and feedback to be delivered to parents and multi:disciplinary teams.

Tutor Role

Based in Portsmouth this part time tutor role will involve working with teachers delivering and differentiating the bespoke curriculum that will be delivered to the student, alongside a mentor. It will be essential to ensure the tutor has strong behaviour management skills. This student is attending a mainstream school and will have extra support whilst in school from a 1.1 Mentor and a tutor.

Tutor Key Responsibilities

  • Willingness to be flexible, this tuition may take place in school sometimes or in the home
  • Deliver a differentiated curriculum working alongside the students teachers.
  • Build trust and emotional safety by attuning to the YPs pace and preferences
  • Use positive, non:directive methods to support learning and engagement
  • Respect and support the YPs independence while remaining available to step in before overwhelm
  • Identify and anticipate sensory and emotional triggers
  • Encourage initiation, allow time for processing, and offer flexible choices
  • Promote emotional regulation through calm and consistent presence
  • Be willing to accompany the YP to safe and familiar places that support well being and learning

Essential Qualities

  • Experience working with autistic children or children with complex SEN
  • Experience working with students with SEMH is desired but not essential
  • Flexibility around how the package is delivered
