About Our School

Located in Banbury, Oxfordshire, The Olive Frances School provides a safe and supportive environment for up to 84 pupils aged 5 to 18, catering to those with complex needs. We champion a holistic approach, ensuring academic progress is balanced with emotional well-being and personal growth.

The school is part of Polaris Community, with 30+ years of expertise in improving young people’s lives. All Polaris education services are rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted.


Role Responsibilities

The Tutor will:

  • Support wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management
  • Collaborate with the education team to reduce barriers to personal and academic development
  • Promote positive learning behaviours
  • Lead classes during PPA sessions and absence cover (with teaching support)
  • Deliver an enrichment ‘golden time’ activity
  • Assist in lessons for academic, pastoral, emotional or behavioural support
  • Address immediate concerns with clarity and sensitivity
  • Create and collate records related to lessons and interventions
  • Prepare materials for pupil-focused meetings
  • Champion the school’s ethos and values
  • Lead reading and phonics interventions, tracking progress
  • Develop the Pupil Voice role, working closely with Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
  • Build relationships with parents/carers, supporting transitions and consultations

Requirements

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Minimum GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in English & Mathematics, alongside strong IT skills
  • Previous experience in a similar role (e.g., HLTA)
  • Experience working with SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) needs in education
  • Familiarity with additional security/hygiene roles (e.g., Food Hygiene, Forest School, lunchtime supervision)
  • Proficiency in behaviour management techniques
  • A commitment to professional development and continuous learning
