Purpose of the Role
This UI Designer (Design System) role focuses on creating, maintaining, and evolving ii’s design ecosystem to deliver consistent, accessible, and high-quality customer experiences.
Working closely with the Design System Lead and the Design System & Architecture (DAS) team, you will:
- Contribute to the design system strategy and roadmap.
- Collaborate with UX, research, engineering, brand, content design, and accessibility teams to ensure the system supports both product needs and user accessibility.
Key Responsibilities
Design System Delivery & Evolution
- Partner with the Design System Lead and DAS team to implement and refine the design system strategy and roadmap.
- Develop and maintain system foundations, components, patterns, and documentation.
- Balance short-term product needs with long-term system scalability.
- Support governance processes and promote effective adoption and contribution.
Asset Libraries
- Design, maintain, and refine reusable components and patterns within a robust library.
- Apply systems thinking to component hierarchy, composition, and dependencies.
- Manage design tokens for colour, typography, spacing, and motion.
- Ensure visual consistency, accessibility, responsiveness, and scalability across components.
- Usher naming conventions, variants, states, and versioning standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with UX, research, engineering, brand, content design, and accessibility teams to create high-quality, reusable solutions.
- Collaborate with developers to bridge the gap between design and implementation.
- Gather feedback from stakeholders and product teams to continuously improve the system.
- Participate in workshops, reviews, and design thinking sessions.
Documentation & Quality
- Produce clear, actionable documentation for components, patterns, and usage.
- Document behaviours, variants, states, and interaction principles.
- Ensure consistency, accessibility, and usability across the design ecosystem.
- Maintain alignment with visual design standards (typography, colour, iconography, spacing, and motion).
Required Experience & Skills
Core UI Design
- 3–5 years’ experience in UI, product, or digital design.
- Strong visual design skills (layout, typography, colour, spacing, interaction design).
- Proficiency in Figma and component-based workflows.
- Experience designing for responsive platforms and devices.
Design Systems
- Proven experience building and maintaining component libraries.
- Deep understanding of component hierarchy, composition, and dependency management.
- Experience with design tokens and foundational design principles.
- Ability to manage complexity in asset libraries while maintaining consistency.
- Experience documenting design systems (patterns, usage guidelines).
- Systems thinking skills to assess broader design impacts.
Collaboration & Quality
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams (design, engineering, content, accessibility).
- Strong communication and design advocacy skills.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG/Section 508) and inclusive design.
- Knowledge of implementation considerations (e.g., design-to-code workflows, QA).

Nice to Have
- Design-to-code (DTC) or participatory coding (MCP) experience.
- Familiarity with Storybook and Zeroheight.
- Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and component-based development frameworks.
- Experience supporting design system governance.
- Contributions to multi-brand or multi-platform design systems.
Success in This Role

- Apply systems thinking to deliver scalable, reusable solutions.
- Partner effectively with the Design System Lead and DAS team.
- Build strong cross-disciplinary relationships (shared ownership).
