Location: Manchester – 3 days in office, 2 days remote Salary: From £37,910

Purpose of the Role

This role focuses on creating, maintaining, and evolving interactive investor’s (ii) design ecosystem to deliver consistent, accessible, and high-quality customer experiences.

You will work closely with the Design System Lead and the Design Systems and Architecture (DAS) team to help deliver the design system strategy, ensuring the system meets the needs of products, users, and contributors. Collaboration with UX, research, engineering, brand, content design, and accessibility teams will be essential.


Key Responsibilities

Design System Delivery & Evolution

  • Partner with the Design System Lead and DAS team to refine and execute the design system strategy and roadmap.
  • Contribute to evolving system foundations, components, patterns, and documentation.
  • Balance immediate product needs with long-term scalability and health of the system.
  • Support governance processes and foster effective contribution and adoption of the system.

Asset Libraries

  • Create, maintain, and refine reusable components and patterns within our asset library.
  • Apply systems thinking to component hierarchy, composition, and dependencies.
  • Manage design tokens (colour, typography, spacing, motion, etc.) to ensure consistency.
  • Ensure components are:
    • Visually consistent across products.
    • Scalable, accessible, and responsive.
    • Capable of supporting multiple use cases.
  • Maintain naming conventions, variants, states, and versioning standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with UX, research, engineering, brand, content design, and accessibility teams to develop high-quality, reusable solutions.
  • Align design assets with engineering implementations via close partnerships.
  • Gather stakeholder feedback to continually improve the design system.
  • Participate in workshops, reviews, and problem-solving sessions.

Documentation & Quality

  • Develop and maintain clear, actionable documentation for:
    • Components, patterns, and usage.
    • Interaction principles, variants, and states.
  • Contribute to intensifying consistency, quality, accessibility, and usability across the ecosystem.
  • Manage visual design standards, including:
    • Typography, colour, iconography, spacing, motion, and interaction patterns.

Requirements

Required Experience & Skills

Core UI Design

  • 3–5 years’ experience in UI, product, or digital design.
  • Strong grasp of visual design fundamentals (layout, typography, colour, spacing, interaction design).
  • Proficient with Figma and component-based design workflows.
  • Experience designing responsive experiences for multiple platforms and devices.

Design Systems

  • Proven experience building and maintaining component libraries and design systems.
  • Expertise in component hierarchy, composition, and dependency management.
  • Hands-on design tokens and foundational design principles.
  • Ability to scale systems across products while maintaining consistency.
  • Documented knowledge of component behaviour, states, and usage guidelines.
  • Capable of systems thinking and understanding long-term design impact.

Collaboration & Quality

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Clear communication skills to articulate design rationale effectively.
  • Up-to-date accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Understanding of implementation considerations and QA processes.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with design-to-code and microcopy (MCP) workflows.
  • Familiarity with Storybook and Zeroheight tools.
  • Basic knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS) and component frameworks.
  • Experience contributing to design system governance.
  • Prior work in multi-brand or multi-platform systems.
