UI /Front End Developer

UI Developer (barclays)

Build a future-proof software experience design and development as a UI Developer, leveraging cutting-edge frameworks and methodologies to deliver scalable, accessible, and high-performing digital products for Barclays’ customers and colleagues.

Location: Knutsford or Manchester


Role Purpose

Design, develop, and improve software solutions by utilising modern engineering practices, ensuring robust business, platform, and technology capabilities scalable for Barclays’ evolving needs.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Development

  • Develop, refine, and maintain high-quality software applications using modern programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
  • Write scalable, maintainable, and performant code.
  • Ensure adherence to secure coding practices while balancing functionality, reliability, and usability.
  • Implement and enforce unit testing and QA measures to guarantee code quality and usability.
  • Optimise user experience (UX), responsive design, and accessibility standards to meet inclusive and business-centric requirements.

Collaboration & Innovation

  • Cross-functional alignment: Partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements and align software solutions with business goals.
  • Teamwork & knowledge sharing: Engage in code reviews, mentorship, and standardisation to foster a culture of technical excellence.
  • Continuous learning: Stay ahead of industry trends and contribute insights within Barclays’ technical communities.
  • Fulfill assessment criteria including risk & controls expertise, change management, strategic thinking, and business acumen.

Requirements

Essential Skills

  • Modern Frontend Development: Hands-on experience with React (or similar frameworks) and modern design systems.
  • Responsive Accessibility: Competency in genuine mobile optimisation and inclusive design practices like WCAG standards.
  • Performance Optimization: Proven experience in code profiling, bundle management, lazy loading, and scaling user-facing experiences.

  • Design System Integration: Experience collaborating with frameworks such as Storybook or design systems like Workshop or Salesforce Lightning Web Components (LWC).

  • Backend Knowledge: Familiarity with REST API/GraphQL integration, design patterns, and preference development best practices.
