The Opportunity

We are seeking a tactical and visionary UI Design Lead specialising in commerce to join our Talent & Talent Delivery team. Your role will involve shaping exceptional user experiences, driving conversions, and reinforcing VML’s position as a leader in UI design excellence.

Ideal for an experienced yet collaborative designer versed in e-commerce, this leadership position requires strategic thinking to evolve aDesign portfolio, delight clients, and mentor designers while aligning design vision with core business growth goals.

Ideal Candidate:

✔ Passionate about conversation-driven design across full customer journeys ✔ Strong background in UI/UX design, particularly with e-commerce sites, digital transformation, and responsive brand identity ✔ A leader capable of mentoring designers, driving innovation, and translating business needs into pixel-perfect designs ✔ Mastery of Figma, Adobe Creative Suite and design systems ✔ Chronicles a portfolio showcasing user-friendly yet conversion-focused UI work ✔ Proven ability to work with developers, engineers, and clients seamlessly ✔ Expected to work in our London office 1 day/week

Key Responsibilities

  • Brand & Visual Identity: Develop elevated brand look-and-feel, design systems, and responsive digital interfaces across clients’ websites, ensuring visual consistency and currency compliance (WCAG).
  • Design Leadership: Lead a team of designers, fostering an environment of excellence, creativity, and collaborative growth. Elevate internal rigor and client alignment through robust feedback cycles and strategic innovation.
  • Stakeholder Management: Present design rationale effectively to clients, internal teams, and senior stakeholders. Transform complex requirements into seamless digital experiences.
  • Account Ownership: Represent VML to key stakeholders and clients, internally and externally, and proactively deliver exceptional results.
  • Portfolio Development: Continuously enhance and expand your portfolio with high-impact commercial examples.
  • Concept to Delivery: Guide design work from concept to execution, owning deliverables that meet both user needs and business KPIs.
  • Innovative Execution: Challenge norms by driving technical possibilities, experimenting with tools, and ensuring pixel-perfect implementation across global markets.

Who You Are

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to demonstrate the following:

Design Excellence & Leadership

  • Demonstrable e-commerce experience—responsible for both standalone projects and long-term creative evolution.
  • Skilled in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite and able to collaborate with design systems.
  • Focused and detail-oriented, with a keen eye for craft and exceptional execution.
  • Enjoys mentoring, helping others elevate their craft to full potential.
  • Adaptable and driven to continually improve, while welcoming new challenges.

Brand & Design Systems

  • Experience creating, maintaining, and improving brand identity and visual design treats holistically.
  • A strong understanding of thematic design and adaptability in digital environments.
  • Proactively handles requirements with a systems-first mindset.
  • Collaborates effectively with art directors, developers, and engineers while advocating for clear user experience strategies.

Approach

  • Possesses resilient work ethic, stamina for complex workflows, and an ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Thrives under pressure and meets tight deadlines without compromising on standard.
  • Communicates persistency while remaining professional and solution-focused.

Presentation & National Representation

  • Mixture of reciprocity and initiative: Engaging senior stakeholders, leading key design decisions, and owning solutions.
  • Sourced a representative of the team, regularly on display to high-profile clients.
  • Comfortable and confident in pitching designs as part of the creative team.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Track record in aesthetic design leadership either via agency or in-house creative studio roads.
  • Degree in graphic design, UI, visualization, or similar creative fields.
  • Portfolio that transcends resolution and experience level, demonstrating expertise in e-commerce design.
  • A diverse illustrative breadth silos to design across sectors and varying requires.
